For me, M&S is leading the way in menswear this autumn. There is a confidence to the new season that makes getting dressed feel exciting again.
Layering is at the heart of it. Fine knits beneath overshirts, soft tailoring under substantial coats, and different textures worn together give an outfit depth without making it feel overworked. The proportions are relaxed, with enough structure to keep everything looking polished.
The colours are what really draw me in. Across the Autograph autumn/winter collection, espresso, charcoal, moss, camel and deep navy set the mood. I love that tonal approach: shades sitting close together, with the interest coming from texture rather than a loud print.
It is a direction that suits how I want to dress. Comfortable enough for a day travelling, considered enough for lunch, and easy to take into the evening. Knitwear, outerwear and tailoring feel part of the same wardrobe.
What M&S gets right, in my opinion, is making that seasonal mood feel achievable. You can see how the layers work together and make the look your own.
M&S men: the bar has been set. This is modern dressing with the Adam seal of approval.
